Pro-Russian militias of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) have refused to fight in the neighboring Donetsk region and have complained about the “exhausting pace” of the Russian offensive in that part of Ukraine. these allied groups.

Lugansk and Donetsk make up the Donbass, Ukraine’s border area with Russia, in which forces close to Moscow operate, and whose regions were recognized by the Clemlins as independent republics just a few days before the invasion of Ukraine began. Ukrainelast February 24th.

According to the Institute for War Studies (ISW), a group of American experts, the invasion of Ukrainefocused in recent weeks on total control over the Donbass, is hitting pro-Russian leanings in both regions.

Apparently, the militias Lugnaskthe region, practically controlled by Moscow, are tired of the “hard offensives” they have to engage in outside their borders.

“Your job is done”

According to ISW, “On August 15, several Ukrainian channels shared a video showing soldiers of the 2740th Battalion of the LPR (pro-Russian Luhansk militias) refusing to fight for the DPR (Donetsk People’s Republic).”

“The soldiers claim that they were celebrating the victory already on July 3, when the LPR forces reached the borders of the region of the city of Lugansk. Luganskand that their work is done,” confirming that they are in control of their territory, the expert group adds.

He points out that at least one Russian “milblogger” (a blogger specializing in defense) has criticized NRL troops for enlisting Russian support for their “liberation” and then refusing to fight in the neighboring Donetsk region.

ISW admits that it cannot independently verify the origin or authenticity of this particular video, but adds that these reports indicate the “morale” of the militias that they must fight for. Lugansk.

This trend is especially dangerous, he adds, for Russian forces seeking to recruit even more new soldiers from Lugansk make up for recent losses.

A further split in the Russian-led forces also threatens to further reduce the effectiveness of Russia’s military operations.
