Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that German MARS II multiple launch rocket systems had arrived in Ukraine.
On July 26, Germany announced that it had transferred three MARS systems to Ukraine. They are similar to the American M270, but somewhat adapted to the needs of the German army.
The installation has two containers of six missiles, all 12 can be fired in less than a minute.
The MARS-II MLRS is manufactured by the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. The system has been in service since 1990.
The maximum speed of MARS-II is 65 km / h, weight – 26.6 tons, cruising range – 480 km. The system can accommodate a crew of three: commander, driver and gunner.
In fact, the Mars MLRS is a licensed copy of the American M270 MLRS system with minor developments.
The German concern KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann) integrated it for the requirements of the German army. Such MLRS were adopted by the Bundeswehr in 1990.
Mars II is designed to destroy accumulations of enemy manpower and equipment, artillery batteries, air defense systems, command posts and communication centers. The system can also create minefields through remote mining.
Mars consists of a launcher mounted on a tracked chassis of an American M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle, unguided rockets (NUR) of 240 mm caliber, fire control equipment and a transport vehicle.
The artillery part of the MLRS MARS consists of two disposable containers with six fiberglass guide tubes each, mounted in an armored hull.
The containers are mounted on a tracked chassis on a turntable. Recharging mechanisms are mounted on the same chassis. The cockpit houses the fire control equipment.
Mars II uses unguided rockets (NUR) with cumulative fragmentation warheads (BZh) or cluster warheads. The cassette consists of AT-2 anti-tank mines for remote mining of the terrain.
The German side announced the supply of these MLRS in mid-June.
