Kyiv’s reaction
Foreign minister Andrei Sybiga has accused Russia of using deportations as a pressure tool and invited Moscow not to throw Ukraine citizens on the border with Georgia, but move them directly to the Ukraine border.
“Russia uses the dismissal of Ukraine citizens through Georgia as a pressure tool. Since June, Russia has significantly increased the number of imposed citizens of Ukraine, mainly former prisoners, on the border of Georgia. As a result, twelve -two people, many of who do not have the right documents, is stuck in the transit zone,” Sybiga said.
According to him, the Consuls are now actively working to provide these people with documents and provide their travel to Ukraine via Moldova.
“43 citizens, including former political prisoners Andrei Kolomiyts, have been evacuated in this way. However, others are still poor in conditions,” Sybiga added.
At the same time, he noted that “there is no guarantee that Russia will not increase the number of exiled.”
Later, President Vladimir Zelensky said Ukrainian diplomats were working to adjust the travel to these citizens back to Ukraine.
“As for the citizens of Ukraine, who actually” thrown “from the Russian territory without the documents and warnings of both Ukrainian and the Georgian side. In particular, these are the Ukrainians released by Russian prisons and territory camps. Ukraine, “the President said.
