The German media Der Spiegel conducted an investigation and found that data on 800 thousand electric vehicles was made publicly available through Volkswagen.
We are talking about several terabytes of data from a special Volkswagen application that was stored for months without protection in Amazon cloud storage.
The information leak concerned, in particular, politicians, businessmen, and intelligence officers. It was possible to track the car in Germany, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Ukraine and other countries.
Bundestag member Grübel allowed journalists to study the data as an experiment. It turned out that he regularly travels to military units.
The leak was due to an error by Cariad, the Volkswagen subsidiary that develops the software. After the appeal, the developers blocked access to the data.
