Relations between Estonia and Russia have become strained over support for Ukraine, increased sanctions against the Russian Federation and increased defense spending by Tallinn.
Estonian President Alar Karis expressed his belief that there will be no war in his country, because “the will to defend is high.” Karis expressed this opinion in an interview with ETV on Tuesday, December 24, reports ERR.
So, the leader of Estonia was asked about the fear among young people about a possible war and whether young people would go to a place afraid of an armed conflict.
“I think the answer should be this: you won’t have to go anywhere, because there won’t be a war. I’m sure that our will to defend is quite high. But we don’t want to try it in practice,” said Karis.
He emphasized that Estonia does not want to test Article 5 of the NATO agreement or check whether people will run, take up arms and defend themselves.
“We don’t want this, so we must do everything so that no one comes here and even opinions about it do not come out,” stressed Karis.
We remind you that the government of Estonia supported the proposal of Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur to send Ukraine another package of military aid, which this time included the same equipment and ammunition.
