The EU is introducing a new mechanism that will allow the integration of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex into the European defense industry.
By 2025, the countries of the European Union plan to produce about 2 million artillery pieces. The European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius mentioned this on Monday, December 23, hromadske reports.
According to Kubilius, today only 20-25% of weapons supplied to Ukraine are produced in EU countries, while the majority are bought abroad. The European Commissioner noted that in order to increase production it is necessary to secure long-term contracts with arms manufacturers, which are still lacking. Without such orders, Europe will not be able to significantly increase the production of weapons and ammunition for Ukraine in the coming years.
“Money from the EU budget cannot be used to buy weapons for Ukraine There are a number of restrictions on investment in the defense industry outside the EU However, money from the European Peace Fund or frozen assets of Russia can be used to buy weapons,” he explained.
At the same time, according to the European Commissioner, Ukraine will receive about 30 billion euros from the EU in 2025 and he himself will decide how much of these funds will be allocated for defense purposes. He added that a new mechanism was introduced to allow the integration of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex with the European defense industry.
We remind you that Ukraine has finished testing drones using fiber-optic cables, which will be more resistant to electronic warfare.
