The ruling regime of Russia explains this fact by “decreasing the importance of the institution of official marriage.”
A record for the number of divorces was recorded in Russia, despite calls from Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to start families. Specifically, in 2024, there will be eight divorces for every ten new marriages. This was announced by Elena Mikhailova, adviser to the general director of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM), reports the Russian pro-government news agency TASS.
“The ratio of the number of divorces to marriages reached its highest value Accordingly, the country, according to this indicator, reached the third place in the world in terms of the number of divorces,” said Mikhailova.
According to him, this is based on “a systematic trend related to the decrease in the importance of the value of the institution of official marriage.”
“This is not a trend at the moment, it is long-term, but today we have the effects expressed in the attempts of citizens to manipulate the status of the family in order to receive social support from the state,” assured the official.
In January-September, 689.8 thousand couples got married in Russia, which is 5% less than in the same period last year, Rosstat said. The number is the lowest in 18 years of available statistics.
The number of marriages in Russia has been falling steadily since the annexation of Crimea in 2014, followed by Western sanctions and the longest period of falling real incomes since the 1990s.
In 2006 – 2013, 1.1-1.3 million new families appeared in the country annually, but in 2016 this number decreased to 985 thousand, and in 2023 – to 945 thousand.
We remind you that Russia is facing total annihilation of the population. Now the problem is “catastrophic.”
