Hundreds of Russian soldiers could not make it from Homs province to the air base in Khmeimimi for fear their convoy would be engulfed in fire.
The Russian military encountered problems in the evacuation from Syria. This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on December 14.
It was learned that hundreds of Russian soldiers could not make it from the province of Homs to the air base in Khmeimimi for fear that their convoy would be engulfed in fire.
According to GUR, some armed groups are taking advantage of the Russian withdrawal process from Syria. They hang the Russian flag from their pillars as a cover for unimpeded movement, including along the M4 highway.
“Colonel of the Russian army Dmitry Motrenko, on behalf of the supreme leader, wandered into negotiations with representatives of the military contingents of other states in Syria – asking for guarantees of immunity for to the soldiers of the aggressor state waiting in the area of the T4 airfield,” the GUR notes.
It is reported that mercenaries from the so-called Russian PMC, especially the African Corps, have appeared in Syria, whose task is to protect Russian units moving from the depths of Syria to bases on the coast.
The day before, December 13, about a thousand Russian military personnel left Damascus in a column for Tartus and Khmeim. It plans to involve at least 25 more military transport aircraft in the operation to evacuate the Russian military contingent from Syria. They will transfer troops, weapons and equipment from Khmeimim to Rostov-on-Don, Chkalovsk and Vladivostok.
Let’s remember that on December 8, rebel forces in Damascus declared the capital “free” from Bashar al-Assad, who fled to Russia.
Bloomberg previously wrote that Russia is negotiating with the new Syrian leadership to maintain bases at the naval port in Tartus and the Khmeimim airbase.
