If agreements are not reached, Polish farmers will protest around the clock until the end of the year.
Polish farmers have started a new protest on the Ukrainian border. The Medika-Shegini checkpoint is blocked for trucks, RFM24 and the State Border Service of Ukraine (SBSU) reported on Saturday, November 23.
“Trucks traveling from Poland to Ukraine will be allowed through one per hour. Passenger cars, buses, humanitarian aid transport and military convoys will pass without problems in both directions,” said the message.
According to the organizers, there are two reasons for the farmers’ protest. The first of these is the failure to comply with the requirement to maintain the agricultural tax level in 2024 at the level of 2023. The second reason is the concern about the EU signing a free trade agreement with countries in South America.
The farmers said that if no agreement is reached, they will protest around the clock until the end of the year.
In turn, the State Border Guard Service reports that so far there is no accumulation of trucks in front of the checkpoint leaving Ukraine. And about 150 trucks are waiting to enter Ukraine.
According to preliminary information from the border guards, the action will last 48 hours with a possible extension.
Earlier, Polish farmers announced new protests on the Ukrainian border. And border guards warned of possible traffic delays at the Polish border. But till now the farmers have not blocked the traffic at the border.
We remind you that from November 2023 until the summer of 2024, the Poles periodically blocked the checkpoints on the Ukrainian border. They demanded a ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.
