Just 12 years after the man’s first symptoms, doctors realized he had a rare fatty tumor.
In Oslo, Norway, a team of surgeons removed a rare tumor from a German citizen who had lived in Norway for years. Bild reported this on Saturday, November 2
It was stated that in 2011, Thomas K’s stomach began to grow. Doctors first diagnosed him as overweight and type 2 diabetes. He was constantly advised to exercise, eat right, and was prescribed the drug Ozempic.
Only in 2023, 12 years after the first symptoms, doctors realized that the man had a rare fatty tumor weighing 27.3 kg. Thomas himself lost weight because of the diet and Ozempic, and his stomach was big and hard.
In September 2023, in Oslo, the German underwent an operation involving three surgeons that lasted 10 hours. They also had to remove his right kidney and part of his small intestine.
Now the man is seeing a psychologist to cope with his experience. He also sees an oncologist twice a year because the tumor has spread to several organs. The German filed a lawsuit against the doctors, but the court of first instance rejected it. According to the verdict, this type of tumor is really so rare that the doctors cannot be blamed. The man filed an appeal.
Earlier in Lviv, doctors successfully operated on a baby with a half-kilogram tumor. The child was born with the same tumor as his mother.
