The SBU and the National Police detained the head of the Finance Department of the Ministry of Defense and two of his accomplices – the head of the financial service of a military unit and a former serviceman, who demanded bribes for the calculation of social payments for wounded soldiers.
The SBU clarified that all three defendants were detained red-handed after one of the bribes was given to them.
The defendants set up a criminal mechanism for receiving money from Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers who were wounded on the front lines. In exchange for bribes, the defendants promised seriously wounded soldiers unhindered accrual of payments established by law due to the disability they had received.
The SBU reported on September 5 that they documented cases of criminals receiving illegal benefits in the amount of more than UAH 300,000.
Based on the collected evidence, the head of the Ministry of Defense department was notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise, or obtaining an undue benefit by an official).
