A breakthrough in reproductive drug may open up new opportunities for the treatment of male infertility.
Ukrainian scientists have taken a significant reproductive drug step – in the first instance they received human sperm from mesenchymal bone marrow stem cells. This was announced during a press conference in the Ukrinform by the head of the Embryology and Biotechnology Department of the ID Clinic, candidate of Yuri Lesnyak Sciences.
“Also, our group of scientific groups on November 18, 2023 first received a person’s spermatozoa from the bone marrow cells. These cells were allocated according to the protocol we had specially developed,” Lesnyak said.
According to him, scientists managed the appearance of active bone marrow cells in the patient’s blood flow, after which the collected cells were laboratory. The resulting sperm was used for fertilization of eggs, as a result of which the embryos were created.
The Ukrainian group under the leadership of Islam Aldabasekha reported this victory to the International Congress on Reproductive Medicine in May 2024.
Now the procedure has been tested and prepared for clinical research. In the future, they plan to use it to treat male infertility.
Earlier it was reported that scientists have created a diagnostic test that allows women to identify an increase in risk of miscarriage even before pregnancy.
