The United States welcomes diplomatic efforts around the world if they coincide with the Ukrainian side’s point of view.
The White House welcomes diplomatic efforts by other countries to achieve peace in Ukraine if they are consistent with President Volodymyr Zelensky’s vision. White House Advisor John Kirby said this at a briefing on Friday, August 23, commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kyiv.
“If any other country is willing to help try to end the war in Ukraine, we welcome that,” he said.
At the same time, Kirby emphasized that such efforts should include communication with Ukraine and “start with understanding President Zelensky’s position on this issue.”
“We always talk about this: there is nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine,” Kirby emphasized.
According to him, Prime Minister Modi, who is “a strong partner of the United States,” is doing that: “he is going to Kyiv and talking to President Zelensky about how this should end.”
“If it helps us end the conflict and meet President Zelensky’s vision of a just world, we think it can be useful,” the adviser added.
Asked about the possibility of escalation as a result of the Kursk operation, Kirby said risks remain. “We will always be concerned about the possibility that aggression against Ukraine could lead to escalation on the European continent,” he explained.
Regarding American weapons, Kirby said he had no confirmation of their use in the Kursk region.
“I can say that there is no change in the recommendations we gave to the Ukrainians about where and how they can use American weapons for self-defense on the other side of the border,” he said.
According to him, the United States “almost every day” talks with the Ukrainians “about what they are doing.”
“The President has authorized them to use American munitions across the border to counter imminent threats. But we’re still talking to them,” Kirby said, adding that no new policy decisions have been made.
As reported, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Kyiv, said that India stands for achieving peace in Ukraine through diplomacy. At the same time, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state must be respected. Also during Modi’s visit, Ukraine and India agreed on four cooperation documents. According to President Vladimir Zelensky, “this is the medical sphere, this is cooperation in the agricultural sector, humanitarian relations, this is culture.”
