Russia has been training to launch nuclear strikes against targets in Europe.
This is evidenced by secret documents seen by the Financial Times.
The maps, prepared between 2008 and 2014, contain targets for strikes by both conventional and nuclear missiles. The targets are military installations and critical infrastructure. In addition to Europe, the documents outline scenarios for possible conflicts with countries that are currently friendly to Russia: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, China and North Korea.
In the plan, the Russian military noted the “advantages of nuclear strikes in the early stages of conflicts” and mentioned the option of a “demonstration strike” – detonating a nuclear weapon in a remote area to intimidate Western countries.
Journalists managed to obtain maps of 32 targets in European NATO countries that could theoretically be attacked by both conventional missiles and tactical nuclear weapons.
The data with maps was created during 2008-2014. The document was developed not for operational use, but for presentation to the Navy officer corps.
