The number of military personnel with stress-related neurological disorders is steadily increasing.
PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) is recorded in 29% of cases of the total number of neuralgic diseases affecting the Ukrainian military, and this number will grow. The head of the Department of Health of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Oksana Sukhorukova, said this on Sunday, July 28.
According to him, the Ministry of Defense is “actively working” to create a system of psychological support and assistance to military personnel.
He noted the importance of providing psychological support and assistance to military personnel at all stages of service and outlined four main stages of psychological assistance: self-help or peer assistance, crisis interventions, point of psychological development at a safe distance from the front line, long-term psychological assistance.
“Particular attention should be paid to supporting military personnel returning from captivity and their families,” said Sukhorukova.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs says 60% of perpetrators of domestic violence are military personnel.
The number of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) diagnoses has increased in a short period of time from three thousand to almost eight thousand reported cases.
