In temporarily occupied Lugansk, monuments to the victims of Stalinist repressions and the Holodomor were dismantled. The head of the Luhansk police department, Artem Lysogor, reported this on Facebook.
According to him, this decision was made by the local cooperating deputies in the session. Allegedly, an appeal was received from “disgruntled residents of Luhansk.”
Lysogor noted that before the start of the full Russian invasion, about 30 citizens who became victims of the Stalinist regime lived in the Lugansk region. Overall, tens of thousands of Luhansk residents fell victim to Stalin’s repressions.
“According to the representatives of the occupation authorities, there was no Stalinist terror in our region, and these monuments hurt the patriotic feelings of the residents of Luhansk On July 17, 2024, they once again changed the history of the Luhansk region in their own way,” emphasized the head of OVA.
The monument to the victims of repression was erected in September 1990. The monument in the form of a stele made of black granite with an engraved cross is located at the site of mass executions – the Gusinovsky cemetery, where the burial of the victim of repression in 1977.
The monument to the victims of the mass famine of 1932-1933 (Holodomor) was erected in 2008.
Let’s recall that last year 4% of Ukrainians said they had a positive attitude towards the figure of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, and 61% said they had a negative attitude. On the territory of Russia the situation is the opposite.
