According to this document, you can become a citizen of Germany in 3-5 years. You will no longer have to renounce your previous citizenship, and you will be able to apply for a passport after five years of residence in the country. In some cases – even after 3 years.
Basic requirements: having legal status in Germany, passing an exam on knowledge of the Federal Republic of Germany and its laws, knowledge of the German language and the ability to provide for oneself.
Citizenship under the accelerated procedure: German language at level C1 and “special merits in integration”. Those who are married to a German citizen can also apply for a German passport after three years.
What are special achievements in integration? Legislators have not yet specified this, but there are three types of such merit: in education, in professional or volunteer activities.
Deadlines for consideration of applications: each federal state decides this issue at its own discretion. Already, the wait time to obtain citizenship has stretched for more than a year in most cities and communities.
