EU policy is shaped by the high representative, as well as by the member countries, and not by the rotating presidency, said EU representative Peter Stano.
Hungary’s presidency of the European Union does not allow it to shape international policy. At the same time, most member countries have overcome all kinds of delays in developing its agenda. This is what EU Speaker for Foreign and Security Policy Peter Stano said in a conversation with journalists.
“The Hungarian presidency will not have significant influence, however, within the framework of the powers received, there may be an attempt to delay the development of what will be the agenda of the European Council, however, even in this case, the most member states can always put pressure on Budapest and find a way to change the agenda, – he said.
According to him, Hungary cannot influence the EU’s foreign policy in any way, because it is formed by the high representative and member states, and not by the rotating presidency. All Budapest can do is block decisions that should be taken unanimously, which they have done before.
