Polish farmers are now also blocking the German border; the protest will last for four days.
Polish farmers have reached the German border in their protests. The slogans are the same as in previous actions on the Ukrainian border. Farmers want changes to the requirements imposed on them under the new EU environmental law, and regulation of the influx of “products from Ukraine and other countries outside the EU” into the European market.
Great blockade
Polish farmers are blocking two important routes on the route from Poland to Germany, causing drivers to detour and seriously obstructing traffic on these routes.
In particular, the A2 highway was blocked in the area of Świecko in Lubusz Voivodeship towards Berlin. The farmers have been standing there since Sunday noon, completely blocking traffic.
Drivers in the area of the town of Jordanovo are directed to a detour to the north via the S3 road. Some travelers who spoke to reporters early in the morning reported that traffic jams about 5 km long were formed on the bypass route through Olshyna.
Route 32 was also blocked in the area of the village of Gubinek, where protesters only allowed border guards, ambulances and police vehicles to pass.
About 17 thousand trucks move between Germany and Poland every day along the blocked crossing, which is located on the autobahn connecting Berlin and Warsaw.
“If necessary, we will protest until the result, throughout the holiday (Easter), until we are heard and our demands are fully met,” emphasized the Polish protesters at the border.
Poland’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Michal Kolodziejczak, said on Monday, March 18, that government representatives are not yet planning meetings with protesters at the German border.
They will go to new frontiers
Polish farmers have also announced a control blockade on one of the roads between Poland and Slovakia, which they want to keep until the end of March.
Farmers from neighboring communities plan to check cargo on the border between Slovakia and Poland near the village of Chyzne and have submitted an application for their protest to the community in Jablonec.
The protesters will go to the checkpoint with their tractors and plan to check every truck heading to Poland and let one at a time. They promised to allow vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists to pass freely.
Truck drivers who do not pass the “inspection” are promised that they will not be allowed to enter Poland.
Same thing in Belgium
Belgian farmers have made it difficult to access Europe’s second largest port of Antwerp and two other ports in the country during a demonstration to protest environmental requirements for their activities under the European Green Deal.
Dozens of tractors from protesting farmers blocked morning traffic to the ports during rush hour.
At the same time, the farmers avoided a full blockade after warnings from the port authority that they would be legally responsible for the losses incurred.
