The task of the EU, according to Borrell, is to confiscate the profits from the fixed assets of the Russian Federation and use it in favor of Ukraine.
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that in EU countries there is strong support for the idea of using the income from Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. He said this to briefing following the EU Council meeting.
According to Borrell, the current task of the EU is to confiscate the profits from the fixed assets of the Russian Federation and use it in favor of Ukraine.
“After today’s discussion, I see strong support. Some member states want more details, but there is strong support to take surplus revenues and use them to support Ukraine,” said Borrell.
He added that the profits can be used for military aid to Ukraine, as well as support for the defense complex of Ukraine.
“I plan to present this proposal and work with the European Commission to approve the EU Council regulation so that member states can discuss a specific proposal before the EU summit,” said the head of European diplomacy.
He clarified that there is “powerful unity” on this issue, not consensus. They plan to submit the decision to EU countries within days.
Let’s recall that in January the European Union began technical work on the implementation of proposals for the use of frozen assets of Russia in the interests of Ukraine.
It was also reported that the EU authorized the use of income from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation.
