The series “The Boy’s Word” and other Russian hits were filmed as part of supporting Vladimir Putin in the elections.

The Meduza publication gained access to internal documents of the Russian Presidential Administration. They say that “The Boy’s Word”, “Slave” and other hits are “content” released specifically for the elections. The authors themselves, as Medusa convinces, did not know about this.
In the spring of 2023, a meeting was held in the Russian presidential administration to discuss Putin’s upcoming re-election. Its participants demonstrated a presentation entitled “Creative Content for Elections.”
According to the presentation, several dozen “creative projects” have been prepared for the 2024 elections. Among them are both projects “on the theme of the Northern Military District” (that is, about the Muscovite war in Ukraine), as well as very popular mainstream films and TV series.
For example, the document indicates Russian box office hits: the comedy “Slave 2”, the drama about figure skating “Ice 3”, the musical “The Bremen Town Musicians” (for the sake of which director Nikita Mikhalkov agreed to remove Irina Gorbacheva from the black list of banned artists) film -fairy tale “At the command of the pike.”
In total, these projects collected about 10 billion rubles at the box office. According to the authors of the presentation to the AP, they also ensured “the protection of national interests, as well as cultural and social (traditional) values.”
The document also includes the most popular Russian TV series of recent years, “The Boy’s Word,” which tells about Kazan criminal groups of the last Soviet years.
It, like other presentation projects, is designed to ensure “increasing the level of knowledge of the population about positive changes in the lives of people in so-called Russia, about the historical and modern achievements of the Muscovites, about the heroes of our days and role models,” and also demonstrates “the preservation cultural identity, traditions and sovereignty.”
In addition, according to the Kremlin, “The Boy’s Word” talks about “qualitative changes in life in Russia as a stable trend” (i.e., apparently, that in the 2020s Russians live better than Soviet people in the 1980s ).
The filmmakers who spoke with the journalists say that they were not aware of their mission in this sense.
Oops, no fucking way! This is the first time I’ve heard about this,” this is how the director of one of the film projects included in the presentation responded to the journalists’ call.
A source close to the production team of the Nuremberg series also said that this is the first time they have heard that the series could be part of some kind of election campaign.
Interlocutors are inclined to believe that Kremlin ideologists are simply clinging to successful projects.
I think they chose everything that could be somehow involved in the elections. They took what they could from the air,” said a source familiar with the details of the filming of one of the series included in the list.
Their film industry colleague explains:
They are trying to support their activities with such ideological supports. They look at what projects were successful, what can be improved, and justify the costs. Like we are engaged in ideology, we work for the sake of the country, we don’t spend money in vain. There are mistakes like The Master and Margarita, but we are working in the right direction and improving.
