The Munich Security Conference 2024 became a wake-up call for Ukraine.

European Truth followed the discussions in the city, which last week turned into the world’s security capital and noted a sad new reality.
The conference program clearly confirmed that for many world politicians and diplomats, Russia’s war against Ukraine is gradually fading into the background. Israel, China, the United States, global instability, problems of the Global South – all these security topics seem to be of equal or greater priority than the Russian threat.
It should be emphasized that the position on supporting Ukraine has not changed. Russia’s actions continue to be called illegal, the official documents of the IBC continue to emphasize that the world must remain on Ukraine’s side… But the so-called “Munich Report” does not even have a separate chapter dedicated specifically to Ukraine. The actions of the Russian Federation come down to the general matrix of events in the world. They say that the world is entering a period of struggle of all against all, write EP journalists.
And at the Munich Conference there was much more fatalism. The West’s readiness to win was not felt. Even the official motto of the conference became the phrase “Lose-lose,” that is, “Everyone loses.”
In the speech of US Vice President Kamala Harris, only the necessary minimum was dedicated to Ukraine, without positive messages. In closed discussions with congressmen, Ukraine, according to the EU, received mixed signals.
Members of the House of Representatives assured that the US military aid package, although delayed, would be adopted. However, the prevailing opinion was that it would be approved without a macro-financial component for the budget, only military support.
At the same time, no one doubts the global consequences of Russia’s actions. In particular, Kamala Harris assured the audience that the United States is seriously assessing the possibility of expanding the Russian war beyond Ukraine. Including the territory of NATO states.
In Munich, historian Timothy Snyder announced the beginning of the third world war. Snyder drew attention to the large number of conflicts that erupted one after another at the initiative of the so-called “weight of evil” states. These conflicts are connected to each other and cannot be perceived separately. It is essentially a fragmented world war.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz became the first top IBC participant to devote almost his entire speech to Ukraine, correctly identifying that Russian aggression is the main security challenge. Moreover: he openly admitted that the West is not doing enough to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and this is precisely the biggest problem.
Overall, European attention to Ukrainian issues was positively striking (and contrasted with the lack of attention from the United States). The presidents or prime ministers of five EU countries came to the Ukrainian dinner. And at Vladimir Zelensky’s speech, the hall was packed to capacity (by the way, Kamala Harris’ speech did not cause any excitement at all). So there was no so-called fatigue from Ukraine among politicians.
