Russia’s operational-tactical tasks remain unfulfilled, Ukraine’s defenses remain intact, and Ukrainians continue operations on Russian territory.
The presidential elections in the Russian Federation, scheduled for March, will have an impact on the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine, predicts the Estonian General Staff.
“The upcoming presidential election in Russia will affect the efforts of both sides. Russia is still trying to achieve a tactical victory, albeit small, but noticeable,” said Colonel Tarmo Kundla, head of the department of the operation of the General Staff of the Estonian Defense Forces, as quoted by ERR.
In this regard, Ukraine is pushing its military operations inside Russia, hitting important targets, he added.
According to Kundla, Russia’s operational and tactical tasks remain unfulfilled, Ukraine’s defenses are holding up, and Ukrainians are continuing operations on Russian territory.
He predicts that in the coming weeks, Russian troops will conduct incursions into Ukrainian territory on the borders of the Belgorod and Kharkov regions to tie up Russian units there and force Ukrainian forces to move additional troops from the direction of Kupyansky.
At the same time, the Donetsk direction remains the main springboard for Russian troops. More active fighting is taking place in the areas of Bakhmut, Avdeevka and Donetsk.
Kundla said that in the direction of Avdiivka, Russian troops have advanced, but the Ukrainian supply routes have not been cut: “The situation from the point of view of Ukraine is quite critical, but the battle continues.”
In the directions of Zaporozhye and Kherson, the intensity of the actions of the Russian armed forces was more restrained; Russia failed to achieve any success. Ukrainian bridgeheads are also held on the left bank of the Kherson region.
“In general, the initiative at the front is still in the hands of the Russian armed forces. They did not achieve great success, but there are small changes. The situation in Avdiivka is quite critical, but the defense of Ukraine remains, Kundla said.
In his opinion, changing the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not bring any changes to the front in the near future.
Let’s recall that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky said that his newly appointed deputies Vadim Sukharevsky and Andrey Lebedenko, as well as deputy chiefs of the General Staff Vladimir Gorbatyuk, Mikhail Drapaty and Alexey Shevchenko has tremendous knowledge and experience that will accelerate Ukraine’s victory in the war.
