On the night of January 13, the United States launched another strike against the Houthis in Yemen. It is alleged that the Houthi radar complex was damaged.

The Al-Masirah TV channel, owned by the Houthis, reports that explosions occurred in the capital Sani: the nearby Al-Dailami air base was attacked.

The strike came a day after a coordinated attack on Houthi positions by the US and UK, supported by several other countries. According to the Pentagon, the military hit 60 targets at 28 sites. These include radars, air defense systems, warehouses, and launch pads for drones and missiles. The Houthis said the shelling killed five soldiers and wounded six others.

US President Joe Biden warned that the strikes could continue if the Houthis do not stop attacking commercial and military vessels in the economically vital area. Asked by reporters whether the Houthis could be called a terrorist group, Biden replied: “I think so.”

The US removed the Houthi group from its terrorist list in February 2021, and now it can bring it back.

Iran, which backs the Houthis, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey condemned the US and British strikes. The Houthis themselves have said they will continue to attack ships heading to and from Israel. Earlier, the Houthis announced that they were joining the war against Israel on the side of the Hamas group, recognized by the United States and the EU as a terrorist group.

Let us remind you that on the night of January 12, the United States and Britain struck Houthi military installations in Yemen in response to the movement’s attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

The Houthis are a Zaydi Shiite militant group operating in Yemen that emerged in the 1990s against the religious influence of Saudi Arabia. The group is named after its founder and former leader Hussein al-Houthi, who was killed by the Yemeni army in September 2004. Then the self-proclaimed imam Hussein al-Houthi launched an anti-government uprising, accusing the Yemeni government of so-called “discrimination against the Zaydi population.” After his death, leadership of the group passed to his brother Abdel-Malik al-Houta.

The war in Yemen began at the end of 2014. Saudi Arabia intervened in the conflict. Then the Houthis captured the city of Sanaa and established control over a large part of the north and other large population centers.

The Houthis say their attacks on shipping routes in the Red Sea are a show of support for the Palestinians and Hamas.

The Houthis are part of the so-called Resistance Force, an anti-Israeli and anti-Western alliance of militias (Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis) backed by Iran. The Houthi slogan is: “Death to America, death to Israel, curse on the Jews and victory for Islam.”

The attacks disrupted international trade, forcing ships to take the long route around South Africa to avoid being hit. And rising shipping costs could trigger a new outbreak of global inflation. but a day after a coordinated attack on Houthi positions by the US and UK with the support of several other countries.
