In the Amazon rainforest, archaeologists have discovered a large lost ancient city more than two thousand years old, Science reports.

According to scientists, at least 10,000 farmers lived in this city two thousand years ago.

A series of mounds and buried roads in Ecuador’s Upano Valley were first noticed more than two decades ago by archaeologist Stephen Rostain. And recent mapping using laser sensor technology has revealed that these sites were part of a dense network of settlements and connecting roads hidden in the forested foothills of the Andes that spanned about 1,000 years.

Archaeologists have dated the excavations from around 500 BC to 300-600 AD. The most prominent feature of the landscape is the complex road system that stretches for tens of kilometers, connecting different urban centers, thus creating a network of regional scale.

It was previously reported that a statue of a dancing muse, which is more than two thousand years old, was found in Turkey. And in China, tombs were found with artifacts that are about 4.5 thousand years old.
