This was reported by the Belarusian publication “Charter 97” with reference to a document published on the National Legal Internet Portal of Belarus.
It is noted that, according to the government decision, the costs of the construction of the pilot innovative project “Construction of a potato storage facility for 20 thousand tons of the 1st start-up complex” at the Tolochin Cannery enterprise are planned to be increased by 2.2 million Belarusian rubles (about 26 million UAH).
Expenses will be increased, in particular, by reducing the funding provided by the country’s National Academy of Sciences “for the creation of a Belarusian space system for remote sensing of the Earth,” in the amount of more than 2 million rubles (about 22.3 million UAH).
The decree on the creation of a Belarusian space system for remote sensing of the Earth was signed by dictator Alexander Lukashenko in October 2003. In 2007, production of the satellite began, launched in 2012.
Although the service life is five years, it has been extended several times. In particular, in January 2022, Russian and Belarusian specialists made an agreed decision to extend the operation of the satellite in orbit until 2025 inclusive.
