The Operational Command “South” explained the significant destruction that occurred after the drone attack in the Odessa region on the night of today, December 17.

This was reported by the Ukrinform agency with reference to the head of the joint coordination press center of the Defense Forces of southern Ukraine Natalia Gumenyuk.
According to Gumenyuk, a Shahed-136 type drone carries a warhead of up to 40 kg and flammable fuel – which is why the damage to houses and nearby streets is quite extensive:
- there was an explosion in one of the residential buildings, many more houses were damaged by the shock wave;
- The debris was scattered over a very large distance, causing fires to break out in several places. The area of the fires was quite large – more than 400 square meters. m in general.
It is noted that the victims who were at the epicenter of the incident and needed medical assistance were provided with it, and psychologists worked on the spot.
The face of the person who died due to the enemy attack also became known – this is 54-year-old Dmitry Ivanitsa, the son of a microbiologist professor, vice-rector for scientific work at the Odessa National University named after Mechnikov Vladimir Ivanitsa.
