Politico’s sources say it is based on control of territory by the renewed Palestinian Authority, which controls the West Bank. They plan to entrust the stabilization of the region to the International Forces, but the United States does not want to send its troops.
One idea is to ask the United Arab Emirates to help rebuild medical facilities or train local workers. Egypt can also help with this.
American officials see the plan as the best of bad options. They understand that it will provoke resistance from Israel and disappoint the Arabs, but they take into account that Washington will have to play a decisive role in the post-war phase.
The publication notes that the plan has serious problems with legitimacy. In the Gaza Strip, and in the West Bank as well, the majority of the population supports Hamas, and the Palestinian National Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, has long been accused of corruption and inefficiency. However, US officials consider this option the most realistic.
The publication’s sources emphasized that the plan is subject to change and will depend on many unpredictable situations.
