Representative of Transcarpathian customs Victoria Sengetovskaya reported this to Ukrinform on the evening of November 17.
In the morning, Ukrainian customs recorded an increase in the queue of trucks at the border with Slovakia due to trucks from the Polish direction. Trucks continue to arrive from the Polish border, causing the queue to grow.
On November 16, there were 900 cars at the Uzhgorod checkpoint on the Slovak border. The line was gradually moving – customs officers were clearing 250 cars per day.
The trucks left the blocked Polish crossings for the border with Slovakia.
At the Polish border, drivers stand in queues for two weeks, at the Slovak border they can pass in 3-4 days, after which they go to the Uzhgorod checkpoint.
Transcarpathian customs officers direct drivers to the Hungarian checkpoint “Tisa”, where there is more customs capacity. At the Transcarpathian customs it is assumed that Slovaks and Hungarians may join the blockade of the Poles.
Earlier, the European Commission stated that one of the key demands of the protesters—the return of permits for Ukrainian carriers—is not legally possible. This is incompatible with the Agreement on Road Transport between Ukraine and the EU, which all EU member states have agreed to.
Meanwhile, Polish carriers are threatening to blockade the fourth point: “Medica – Shegini”. They say they are not satisfied with the speed of negotiations between the Polish and Ukrainian governments.
On Thursday, November 16, Slovak carriers blocked the main checkpoint on the border with Ukraine.
The action lasted for an hour. According to the Slovak publication Aktuality, this was “a precautionary action in support of Polish colleagues, who have been protesting for several days against the liberalization of EU rules for Ukrainian trucks.”
Slovak carriers said they would wait for a reaction from the European Commission within seven days. In case of its absence, they threaten to completely block this checkpoint for Ukrainian cars.
