During the Russian attack on the Odessa region, Romanians were called to hide in special shelters or cellars.
Elements of a Russian drone were again found on the territory of Romania. This is the third time in the last few days. Moscow’s massive attack on the river port of Izmail, located just a hundred meters from the Romanian border, increases security risks for NATO. However, instead of actively protecting its citizens, the Alliance denies attacks by the Russian Federation, and Bucharest asks local residents to go into hiding.
The third “martyr”
Today, after the Russian attack on the Odessa region, the fragments of a Russian UAV were rediscovered in Romania. Elements of the “shahed” were found near the cities of Nufera and Victoria, about 20 kilometers from Izmail and 60 kilometers from Reni
According to the country’s Ministry of Defense, the wreckage was discovered by the crew of an IAR 330 Puma helicopter of the Romanian Air Force. Fragments of the drone were scattered over several tens of meters.
It was reported that another Romanian Air Force helicopter with a specialized team on board was sent to the site where the bomb fell to conduct preliminary research and take samples for analysis.
The country’s defense ministry spokesman, Constantin Spinu, explained that the drones used by Russia are difficult to detect on radar because they attack at low and very low altitudes. Therefore, according to him, they cannot be shot by the country’s military.
Please note that this is the third case. Bucharest previously announced the discovery of drone debris similar to that used by the Russian Federation. After that, the Romanian authorities decided to strengthen the security of the territories bordering Ukraine.
NATO responded
In turn, the North Atlantic Alliance sees no signs that Russia is preparing to attack one of the NATO member countries.
“There is no indication that the Russian Federation intends to attack NATO member Romania or any other state. And this is the result of the power and strength of our alliance. We are the first element of deterrence. It is clear that when several hundred meters or a few kilometers from your home, you can hear the sound of war, it obviously worries you, and it obviously causes anxiety. I understand that. But there is no danger for Romania that it will be involved in the conflict or that it will spread to Romania, ” NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joane said yesterday.
Regarding the drones found on Romanian territory, Joan said there was no sign of Russia’s intention to strike its territory.
“This was not an intentional attack. My message as a Romanian is: rest assured that NATO is taking all measures to ensure the protection of its entire space, including Romania,” he added.
“Go to cover”
At the same time, on the night of September 13, against the backdrop of a Russian attack in the Odessa region, the Romanian authorities sent notices to some settlements in Tulcea County asking them to take shelter because of “some objects falling from airspace.”
“Stay calm! Hide in basements or civil protection vaults. If there is no shelter, stay indoors, as far as possible from windows and exterior walls,” the message said.
The Tulcea Emergency Inspectorate clarified that the message was sent to the population of eight localities: Lunkavita, Grinda, Isaccea, Ceatalkii, Chilia, Somova, Pardina and Vacarene. A similar RO-Alert message was also issued in Galak.
The hang up was sent with a new message after 90 minutes.
Let’s recall that due to Russia’s shelling last week, the Romanian authorities are considering the option of evacuating the residents of the villages above the Danube. In particular, the mayor of Catalkioi commune, Tudor Chernega, proposed to take those who wish and give them the same help as Ukrainian refugees.
“Those who want to live voluntarily will be given the same conditions as the Ukrainians – shelter and food. I believe that the residents of the village of Plauru are experiencing the same tension caused by the war,” said the mayor of community.
However, the Romanian central authorities ignored Tudor Chernega’s proposal.
Local residents, in comments to the media, also admitted that they are afraid of not waking up the next morning, but are “almost used” to strong explosions and do not want to leave the village where they have lived most of their lives .
