Under the Lake Orchid, archaeologists have discovered the remains of a prehistoric community for up to 8000 years.
Scientists from Switzerland and Albania have found an underwater settlement for 6-8 thousand years in Lake Orchid waters. Reuters reported it.
Archaeologists believe that this is the first Lake community, known in Europe, and these are the inhabitants of the first to actively develop agriculture on the continent.
The findings include wooden piles that serve as the basis for houses, wild seeds and pets, brass and ceramics instruments with elegant carving. These artifacts indicate a high degree of organization and adaptation to priozerian environment.
“Organic material is very well preserved, as it is underwater. We are allowed to know what these people are eating and what they are raising,” said Professor Alberg Gafner from Bernian University.
The total regimen area is approximately 6 hectares. However, after six years of research, archaeologists managed to study only about 1% of the territory. So far, scientists have used radiocarbon and dendrogronology reviews.
“They are still involved in hunting and gathering, but they have received a steady income for agriculture food,” said Albanian archaeologist Adrian Anastasi.
The Lake Orchid, border with Albania and North Macedonia, is considered the oldest lake of Europe – over one million years old.
