Units flying Mi-28N helicopters, which became unsuitable for a real war, were deployed in several regions of the country at once.
The Russian military command is forming special helicopter units that will fight against UAVs in Russia’s rear, where there is a lack of ground-based air defense systems, Russian propagandists wrote.
It is noted that these units are equipped with Mi-28 helicopters, which are not very suitable for real combat operations.
“The new Mi-28N helicopter units are deployed in several regions of the country at the same time, their crews undergo special training to intercept drones at different times of the day and conditions of time,” the statement said.
As noted by the Ukrainian publication Defense Express, the cruising speed of these attack helicopters is 265 km/h, which theoretically allows them to chase down drones flying at speeds of up to 200 km/h. The onboard equipment of these vehicles also allows them to attack air targets not only with a 30-mm cannon, but also with infrared-guided guided missiles.
In general, the Russian Federation has up to hundreds of Mi-28 helicopters of several modifications in service.
“We can assume that a significant part of these machines can now be used specifically for the task of intercepting our drones in the air over the Russian Federation. Moreover, Russian propagandists themselves complained that the Mi-28N showed its ineffectiveness when trying to use guided missiles.” in the war against Ukraine, mainly due to deficiencies in shipboard equipment,” the publication noted.
Ukrainian military analyst Alexander Kovalenko also noted that the Mi-28 is a massively unsuccessful machine, so using it as a replacement for air defense is to a certain extent a “salvation” for to the Russians.
“The funny thing is that the Russian command was prompted to this idea by using the Mi-28N against a drone in the Oryol region, where a helicopter with a 30-mm 2A42 tried to hit a UJ- 22 Airborne drones with a dozen. shooting shots, as well as the case when the Mi-28N, attention, drove (!!!) a drone away from the coast of Crimea. Repelled!!!” – the expert mocks the combat characteristics of helicopters, the cost of which reaches $18 per side.
Remember, according to The Guardian, more than 190 drone attacks were carried out on Russian territory and Crimea was temporarily occupied. The latest strikes, targeting at least six Russian regions, are the strongest in 2023.
