At present, the death of 32 people has been confirmed and 28 injured, the whereabouts of 39 people have not been established, – Vladislav Dudar, an officer of the Main Directorate of Mine Action of Civil Protection and Environmental Safety of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said during a briefing.
According to him, the first challenge after the explosion of the Kakhovka dam was the flooding of the territories. A significant problem is that 68% of the flooded territories (the main place of flooding) are temporarily occupied, and how many people died this way is still unknown.
A total of 612 sq. km, of which 32% is de-occupied territory. 2,783 people were evacuated. Nearly 65% of all forests in the Kherson region have been flooded,” Dudar said.
After the explosion of the Kakhovka dam, there was an uncontrolled transfer of mines and other explosive objects. Works on clearing flooded areas from explosive objects have been completed.
It is very difficult to answer the question of how the migration of mines in the occupied territories was carried out, but this could lead to the contamination of previously clean territories with explosive remnants of the war, the officer said.
After the terrorist attack, the Kakhovka reservoir was drained by more than 70% percent.
On June 11, information was received that the total volume of the Kakhovka reservoir decreased by 72.5%. Or more than 14 sq. km, and this is a very large amount of water that has fallen into the Black Sea … According to fresh satellite images, we can say that the Dnieper River has returned to its natural course. And now from the total area of the Kakhovka reservoir – more than 2 thousand 155 square meters. km – the total volume of water is about 120 square meters. km, – said the representative of the Ministry of Defense.
After the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, according to the space agency, approximately 72% of the volume of water was lost from the Kakhovka reservoir from what it was before this incident.
