Despite the sanctions, Russia was able to launch the Luna-25 lander, the first lunar probe in 47 years, to the moon on August 10. The previous Luna-24 mission took place in 1976, when the USSR delivered 170 grams of lunar rock samples to Earth.
However, already yesterday, Roskosmos reported that the Luna-25 station, due to a deviation in the actual parameters of the impulse, switched to an off-design orbit and collided with the Moon. The mission has ceased to exist.
Luna-25 is the first lunar mission in the modern history of Russia. The previous Luna-24 station was launched in 1976 under the Soviet Union. It was planned that on August 21, Luna-25 would land on the South Pole of the Moon, north of the Boguslavsky crater. Its main tasks are to test the soft landing technology, study the internal structure of the Earth’s satellite and explore resources.
They prepared for a long time, blew everything in the blink of an eye – and this is the future of Muscovy, as they called this flight.
