The resolution states that the early provision of this vital weapon will allow the Ukrainian military to strike deep behind enemy lines.
On Friday, June 9, members of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, representing the Democratic and Republican parties, announced the introduction of a resolution calling on the administration of President Joe Biden to transfer ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine. This was reported by European Truth.
According to the co-author of the resolution, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Republican Michael McCole, if the United States does not provide Ukraine with all the necessary weapons, it will help prolong the war.
“The success of the Ukrainian counteroffensive is directly related to the military assistance provided by the US and our allies. So it is very unfortunate that the administration is withholding billions of dollars of military funding that could be immediately transferred to Ukraine and in turn help its Armed Forces make significant changes on the battlefield.” , he said.
The document also refers to the decision of the governments of Great Britain and France to move the long-range missiles Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG, respectively, with a range of 250 kilometers.
“The United States and allied countries jointly possess thousands of ATACMS missiles that could be transferred to Ukraine,” the draft resolution said.
It also says that the Russian Federation’s current dominance of long-range weapons “forces Ukrainian forces to fight at a greater disadvantage.”
If passed, the House of Representatives would call on the US to “immediately transfer to Ukraine sufficient ATACMS to accelerate Ukraine’s victory in Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression while maintaining US military readiness.”
As stated in the resolution, “the early provision of this critical weapon will give the Ukrainian military the necessary capability to strike deep behind enemy lines, which they do not yet have, undermining Russia’s ability to go to war.”
The ATACMS tactical missile systems are surface-to-surface missiles that can travel about 300 kilometers, about four times higher than the missiles used by the mobile HIMARS systems.
It will be recalled that the United States announced today the provision of another military aid package to Ukraine worth $2.1 billion. The aid package includes: additional ammunition for the Patriot air defense system; HAWK air defense system and missiles for them; 105mm and 203mm artillery shells; Puma unmanned aerial system; ammunition for laser-guided missile systems; support for training, maintenance and support activities.
As reported, the head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, said that the US is not yet ready to provide Ukraine with ATACMS long-range missiles.
