Analysts believe that such a rotation of Russian troops will reduce the speed of their offensive operations along the Avdiivka-Donetsk line.

The mercenaries of the Russian PKK Wagner left Bakhmut, and in their place, most likely, the invaders will send the militants of the “DPR”, and the regular units of the Russian troops will go to the edges of the city. This regrouping may reduce the ability of the invaders to move in other directions in the Donetsk region. This was confirmed by the report of analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Russian offensive operations were severely curtailed in two skirmishes in the direction of Bakhmut. Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar explained this reduction by the exit of the occupiers from the area and the reintegration of forces in the area, experts said.

On May 27, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive operations west of Khromovoye (immediately west of Bakhmut) and in the direction of Predtechina (15 km southwest of Bakhmut).

Malyar also said that the Defense Forces occupied dominant positions in the north and south of Bakhmut and that the Armed Forces of Ukraine stopped fighting on May 26 and 27 to carry out other unspecified tasks. He also said that our fighters continue to control positions in the southwestern outskirts of Bakhmut.

The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, said that the “Wagnerites” are being removed from Bakhmut and will “regroup at three more points.”

Russian military command may overthrow “DPR” militants to unload Wagner mercenaries. ISW experts recorded units of the 132nd Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 1st Army Corps of the DPR, operating in the direction of Bakhmut after the battle in the Avdiivka area. However, it is not yet known whether these brigade units operate within the city.

The ISW notes that the rollover of DPR militants by Russian units in Bakhmut could slow down the pace of Russian offensive operations along the Avdiivka-Donetsk line.

However, the Russian Federation is reinforcing the flanks of Bakhmut with regular formations of Russian troops, analysts believe. The Institute added that the Ukrainian military reported that Russian forces turned unspecified units of the Airborne Forces, motorized riflemen and special forces in the direction of Bakhmut after successful counterattacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Bakhmut flanks.

Recall that on May 25, the head of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, announced the withdrawal of mercenaries from Bakhmut.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed that the “Wagnerites” began to leave their positions in the suburbs of Bakhmut.
