The Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) in a meeting on March 17 changed the measure of detention for the former Deputy Minister for the Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Vasily Lozinsky. On Tuesday, March 21, RBC-Ukraine reported, citing its sources.
The court changed the measure of detention from detention to round-the-clock house arrest. At the same time, the prosecution requested the extension of the detention.
VAKS also rejected a motion to disqualify Judge Yaroslav Shkodin.
NABU has previously established that the sister of this judge, Irina Shkodina, is a co-author of a number of scientific papers of another person involved in the case – Deputy Director for Project Management of the State Institute of UkrNIIvodokanalproekt Maxim Babenko . Lozinsky allegedly took bribes when buying equipment for the UkrNIIvodokanalproekt, investigators believe, but Babenko’s role in the case has not been established.
At the same time, according to detectives, Irina Shkodina works and is friends with the husband of Maxim Babenk. They believe that the judge’s relative may be interested in not bringing Babenko to justice.
It will be recalled that on February 17, it became known that the VAKS canceled the house arrest for the former deputy head of the Ministry of Regional Development, Vasily Lozinsky. Today the former official was taken into custody with bail in the amount of 50 million hryvnias.
We add that in early February, Vasily Lozinsky was detained on suspicion of accepting a bribe of 400 thousand dollars for assistance in concluding contracts for the purchase of equipment and machinery at inflated prices. The next day, the deputy minister was fired.
