A Russian soldier who apparently spent six months hiding in a city in Ukraine that came under the control of the Moscow army has been detained by the country’s military.
The soldier was detained yesterday in the city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, from where Russian troops withdrew last September, Ukrainian police said on Tuesday.
A 42-year-old Russian serviceman was detained by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Ukraine while patrolling the Kupyansky district, the Kharkiv regional police department reports.
Hidden in abandoned buildings
The soldier told police that he had been hiding in abandoned houses since last September, when the Ukrainians forced the army to leave. Russia leave the area.
