Several thousand civilians still remain in the city, forced to hide in shelters day and night.
The UN has expressed concern about the situation in which the inhabitants of Bakhmut find themselves – there are now about four thousand of them there. This was announced on Tuesday, February 28, by the press secretary of the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, writes the Voice of America.
He said civilians continue to be in basements and bomb shelters, because “the security situation is tense.”
“Humanitarian organizations are experiencing great difficulty accessing the area, so local residents are forced to do only what has already been delivered to the city,” he said.
Dujarric also noted that the city lacks water, electricity and heat due to damaged public infrastructure.
“We emphasize that the civilian population must be protected and they must be given the opportunity to leave the area of hostilities safely,” Dujarric said.
The situation in Bakhmut was difficult, reinforcements were sent there.
