The Russians hoped that the use of such PCs would give them “technical independence” in the nuclear industry.
Rosenergoatom, part of Rosatom, began testing Russian personal computers called Bober based on the Baikal processor, with the subsequent introduction of these computers into its infrastructure. This was reported by the press service of the concern on Monday, February 27.
“The concern has purchased the first batch of domestic Bober personal computers based on the Baikal processor and is preparing to introduce them to the company’s infrastructure,” the press service said.
Oleg Shalnov, director of the department for IT project management and integration at Rosenergoatom, argued that the move to Baikal is a very important step for the concern “to ensure the proper level of technological independence in sensitive strategic areas such as industry of nuclear.”
Bober is a Russian-made universal PC in a compact SFF small form factor package developed by Delta Computers based on the Baikal-M processor.
Astra Linux Special Edition Novorossiysk is used as an operating system on computers.
As previously reported, Belarus has started mass production and sales of H-book MAK4, which Minsk once called “the first domestic” laptops.
It should be noted that the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko presented the “first domestic” laptop on September 1, 2022 at an open lesson. Then he admitted that there is still not much “domestic” here – 12%.
