The EU sanctions list for Belarus includes 243 individuals and 32 legal entities.
The European Union has extended sanctions against Belarus’ formal leader Alexander Lukashenko and his entourage. The restrictions will remain in force until the end of February 2024. This was confirmed by data in the official journal of the EU on Monday, February 27.
“Due to the severity of the ongoing situation in Belarus and the participation of Belarus in the illegal aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, it is advisable to keep in force all measures taken by the union. The decision should be extended until February 28, 2024, ” said the message.
At the same time, 21 individuals and two institutions were added to the sanctions list, including Belarusian enterprises Synesis LLC and Belarusian Potash Company OJSC.
Currently, the EU sanctions list for Belarus includes 243 individuals, including self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko, and 32 legal entities. Sanctions include visa restrictions and asset freezes.
The EU first imposed sanctions against Belarus in 2012 for repression and human rights violations. In the future, they expanded again and again, especially after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Recall that in 2022, Lukashenka called on Belarusians to “endure a year” under sanctions. Western countries will still apologize to Belarus and demand continued cooperation, he said.
