The Russian Defense Ministry announced that Ukraine was preparing “a staging of an alleged offensive by Russian troops from the territory of Transnistria.”
Moldova did not confirm this assertion of the Muscovites. In the telegram channel, the governments of the republic called for “calm and receiving information from official and trusted sources of the Republic of Moldova.”
The Russian Defense Ministry claims that Ukraine is “preparing an armed provocation” against the unrecognized Transnistria in Moldova “in the near future.”
As a pretext for the invasion, a staging of an alleged offensive of Russian troops from the territory of Transnistria is planned, according to a statement published on the morning of February 23.
Ukrainian saboteurs, it is stated in it, will allegedly be dressed in Russian military uniforms. At the same time, the Azov fighters will attack the Moldovans.
The Russian Ministry of Defense regularly announces such sabotage, including the use of chemical weapons. None of these announcements came true.
Concerns about the possible involvement of Moldova in the conflict were also repeatedly voiced during the year of the war.
In mid-February, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that Ukraine had provided documents to Chisinau, from which it follows that Russia is preparing “explosive actions” in her country. She instructed the security and public order authorities to exercise maximum vigilance in order to prevent the overthrow of the constitutional order.
Last week, speaking at the Munich conference, Sandu said that Russia is waging a hybrid war against Moldova, using economic pressure and propaganda. In her opinion, Moscow wants to destabilize the situation in the country and bring people to the streets in order to change power and create a pro-Russian government. At the same time, she noted that she did not see an immediate threat of an invasion of Moldova by Russia.
On the territory of Transnistria, which broke away from Moldova, in the village of Kolbasnaya there is one of the largest weapons storage facilities in Europe.
