Immigration authorities in United States of America Remembered this Monday migrants Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua D Venezuela that a plan went into effect Sunday that allows them to be immediately deported to Mexico unless they have prior approval of a request for humanitarian entry into the country.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has confirmed that immigrants from these four countries must request prior authorization to enter the country. United States of Americaand those who enter the country without documents will be “quickly” expelled to a neighboring country.
On January 5, President Joe Biden announced a plan to stop the large flow of immigrants across the country’s southern border.
Under the plan, the United States will receive about 30,000 asylum seekers per month from Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua and Haiti, expanding the program under which it has already granted humanitarian permits to Venezuelans.
Those deported to a neighboring country for illegally crossing the southern border will not be able to access humanitarian permits, and those arriving “illegally” in Panama and Mexico will not be able to request one, CBP repeated in its Twitter posts.
Immigration control and expulsion
To apply for humanitarian parole, immigrants from these four countries must have a sponsor in United States of Americawhich ensures that he provides them with housing and food, among other things.
With this plan, the White House intends to contain the arrival immigrants to the southern border of the United States, where large numbers continue to be recorded. In December 2022, CBP reported that it had intercepted 216,162 people at the country’s southwestern border, up 11% from November.
In a statement, the CBP warned that the increase was “largely driven by an increase in the number of people fleeing authoritarian regimes in Cuba and Nicaragua.”
However, he pointed out that Venezuelans, who previously formed part of this increase, continue to arrive in “much smaller numbers as a result of the process migration control including deportation to Mexico and legal channels” applied since last October.
“Venezuelans have dwindled from about 1,100 people a day (the week before the announcement of this process) to about 100 people a day for the entire month of December. (E.F.E.)
