On Tuesday, the Argentine government advised its citizens planning a trip to Peru to take into account the possible difficulties that may arise in this country. due to the political crisis.
“Citizens of Argentina who plan to visit the Republic of Peru in the near future are advised to make a wise decision, collect as much information as possible before starting their trip, and take into account possible difficulties and unforeseen events that may arise. both for their compatriots and for their families,” the Argentine Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Argentine government remembered that in Peru “Demonstrations continue to be recorded, and roadblocks and national roads disrupt the normal operation of transport in all its forms.”
The statement refers to other restrictions on airports and rail transport due to the state of emergency due to the serious political crisis that began with the departure of Pedro Castillo from power.
Last week, Argentina, Mexico, Bolivia and Colombia, in a joint statement, called into question Castillo’s dismissal and Dina Boluarte’s inauguration and demanded that the “will of the citizen” expressed in the elections be respected.
Peru is experiencing a social outbreak that began to take shape on December 7 after the failed coup d’état of Castillo, who was then deposed by Congress and arrested by his escort.
On 11 December, demonstrations intensified in various parts of the country, some of which led to acts of vandalism and in which 26 people were killed in the crackdown.
The demonstrators demand the resignation of President Boluart, the closure of the Congress, the calling of a general election and the convening of a constituent assembly.
IACHR to start visit to Peru
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday via Twitter that Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will conduct a “technical visit” to our country from tomorrow Tuesday until next Thursday, December 22.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the purpose of the visit is to test “Peru’s commitment to human rights” as a result of the latest violent events in the government of President Dina Boluarte.
“In line with international human rights obligations, Foreign Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi announces that the technical visit IACHR, at the invitation of Peru, will be held from 20 to 22 December. The agenda is aligned with IACHR and involved sectors,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
