Colombia’s foreign ministry said this Saturday that it was working with its Peruvian counterparts to find the most flexible procedure to bring in swiftly Sergio Tarache, a Venezuelan citizen wanted by the Peruvian justice system for setting fire to his former partner. Katherine Gomez.

The information was published in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the neighboring country and circulated through its official channels.

“The authorities in both countries have been working to find the most flexible procedure to bring Mr. Tarache Parra to the Peruvian authorities expeditiously, in accordance with the domestic and international rules applicable to this case,” the document says.

Similar office Colombian confirmed that the one who confessed to the murder of a woman was arrested in the northern country on April 12 based on an Interpol red notice upon request Republic of Peru.

“As soon as the takeover took place, the Colombian government communicated through diplomatic channels corresponding to the government of Peru,” the statement said.

Tarache must return to Peru “to answer for the crime,” says the head of the joint venture

Sergio Tarache Parra, accused of murdering Catherine Gomez, was detained by Colombian police last Tuesday evening. However, his extradition to our country to answer for this crime seems to be becoming a new obstacle on the path to restoring justice.

In this regard, the President of the Judiciary, Javier Arevalo, indicated in press statements that the extradition process has already begun with the Colombian authorities and that in this process there will be no reason for the President of this country, Gustavo Petro, to intervene to prevent the transfer of Tarache to Peru.

“Mr. Sergio Tarache has an arrest warrant. It is being processed for transfer to Peru, and I believe that the President of Colombia will not have to (…) intervene to prevent the transfer of this person who has committed a crime.” he pointed out.

With regard to the extradition process, the President of the Judiciary indicated that it was a process that had its own procedures and that it was preferable to expulsion.

“I understand that Mr. Tarache is being held in Colombia and that there are two possibilities: he will be extradited or exiled. (…) I do not think that he should be sent to Venezuela, because he is a crime being investigated here in Peru, there is a request for his extradition. If a person were handed over to his country, he would not have to answer,” he said.

However, it states that the final decision on the procedure lies with the Colombian judiciary.

Regarding a possible life sentence for Tarache Parra, the chairman of the judiciary indicated that this would depend on the judges who are considering the case.

“The judges will see if it is a life sentence or what the sentence is. I cannot interfere with this, but the judges who will try this person will see what the verdict is, if there is one,” he said.
