A group of protesters move Tuesday afternoon along Miguel Grau Avenue, in Cercado de Lima, in a new day of protests against the government Dina Boluarte and Congress of the Republic.
This group of people began their journey along Alfonso Ugarte Avenue, having previously focused on Two May Square. Most carry banners with slogans against the authorities, as well as flags and other insignia.
Some of these protesters have already reached the intersection of avenues Nicolás de Pierola and Abancay. At that moment, a contingent of National Police officers was deployed.
Despite the fact that Abankay Avenue was initially blocked, a number of protesters managed to move along this road and head towards the headquarters Congress of the Republic.
However, the protesters only managed to advance as far as the intersection of Huallaga jirón with Abancay Avenue. At this point, a metal fence and at least seven rows of police officers were set up as a human cordon to prevent a possible attempt at relocation.
So far, there has been no confrontation during the movement of the protesters, and the group that arrived at Abankay Avenue is only protesting in front of the police without any confrontation.
Crisis in Peru
This day of protest comes after what happened Saturday afternoon and night on Abanchay Avenue, when a clash between police and protesters killed one person and injured more than 50.
The victim was identified as 55-year-old Viktor Santisteban Jaxavilka, who suffered a severe head injury at ear height, which exposed his brain. An autopsy performed on him confirms that his death was the result of a blunt force fracture of the skull.
Faced with such a situation, public service decided to initiate a preliminary investigation by the prosecutor’s office into the alleged commission of the crime of murder in the context of human rights violations during social protests against those responsible for the death of Santisteban Yachavilka.
The mobilization takes place on a new day of mobilization against the government of Dina Boluarte and the Congress, which began on January 19 in the capital.
Protests and demonstrations against the executive power these days were concentrated in lima fence.
The demonstrators demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, as well as the departure of congressmen and the appointment of a general election.
The last-day protests in the capital come after weeks of demonstrations in various regions of the country, starting from the second week of December 2022.
So far, the death toll in this social crisis in the country is 58 people.
