He is a fan of French rap and Magic card game. Yadeck founder Paul Wallaert wanted to combine his passions. In a few days, this French rap card game will be released in beta, reserved for a few select players who can register on the site.
These cards are actually NFTs, these non-fungible digital tokens. Depending on the rapper’s top album ranking each week and their certifications, the card’s value, capacity, and price vary. A well-known and well-regarded rapper will represent a more powerful card than a less well-known early-career rapper. But the interest is also there. a bet on an emerging artist is a chance to invest a little on someone who might explode. It will be possible to collect the cards, trade them, resell them or participate in competitions where two players compete with a “deck” of 5 cards. Every purchase will be at auction. A floor price will be set for each level. For example, basic cards called “collectors” will be marketed from €2.
A digital rap league for everyone
“When we saw Sorare use NFTs as a tool,we thought it was a really interesting technological object.”, explains Paul Wallaert. He started the Yadeck project in 2021 with his brother Ian. Athena Family investment company supported them with 2 million euros. Since then, around twenty employees have been working on the development. They quickly teamed up with Amadou Bai and Florian Letzerf, two collaborators of the rap magazine Booska-P. “They know people in the industry, record companies, it gave us good first contacts.”. Yadek was able to approach Warner Music France, with whom a partnership was formed to acquire the rights to their artists. But the site also wants to acquire the rights of independent rappers, many of whom are among the emerging talents on the French scene. “We want to become the FIFA of French rap. Every football player dreams of playing his character one day, for us it should be the same model, and rap is the only musical style that embodies confrontation particularly well..
There is a real interest in communication for artists. “They’ll be able to reach a wider audience, an audience of investors who don’t necessarily know the rap world.”. A commercial argument is created. “Each production house, therefore with redistribution, each artist will receive royalties on the purchased card without having to pay anything.”. It’s also an opportunity to unite its community, as each ticket sold will be accompanied by rewards: giveaways, CDs offered, meetups, listening to a preview of concert tickets.
The CEO insists on the concept of affordability. “We wanted to use the polygonal blockchain. Ethereum fees were too high and we wanted to avoid that the only buyers were those with large funds. Everyone will be able to buy cards and watch the market to understand their value“. Thanks to a partnership with Snep, Syndicat National de l’édition phonographique, Yadek knows about artist sales and will provide players with key information. Each artist’s album will be paid for with 1,100 cards of varying rarity levels. They will be distributed in waves to balance the property.
The project, which will be fully launched at the end of 2022, intends to develop from all sides. “We are going to change the recipe. Of course, there will be other types of cards that will be added, such as beatmakers, those who create the instrumentals for rap tracks, or former rappers who are no longer producers. From 2023, an individual game mode will be offered to the curious without buying a card. A mobile application is also under development.. In the more distant future, Paul Wallaert also aspires to export his recipe to the rap markets of other countries, especially the United States, masters of the genre or Germany.
