Ahead of the UK general election, TikTok launched a news literacy hub where journalists and fact checkers teach viewers how to spot misinformation and fake news.
TikTok, like other social platforms, has become an important part of the political struggle. Politicians run campaigns on TikTok and spread propaganda and fake news on the platform.
Ahead of the UK general election in early July, TikTok started sharing tips on spotting fake news and spotting things like misinformation to its viewers. The platform shows users videos of journalists and fact checkers as part of its new Media Literacy Center.

“This in-app hub is designed to help our community gain the skills needed to critically engage with online content and safely explore their interests. It builds on our #FactCheckYourFeed campaign, which focuses in critical thinking and news literacy, covering topics such as identifying fake news online and how to eat a balanced “new diet,” the platform said.
As part of this campaign, Logically Facts has published a series of educational videos on how to recognize and counter misinformation. The center can be accessed by searching for terms related to common fake news topics, such as recent world events.
Throughout 2024, TikTok promises to continue working with experts and fact-checking organizations around the world to conduct campaigns against misinformation, identify AI-generated content, and more.
It can be remembered that former US President Donald Trump joined TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese technology giant ByteDance. He previously tried to ban the platform while serving as US President.
