Mice grow antlers after being implanted with deer cells

The growth mechanism of deer antler can be used for bone repair in regenerative medicine.

Chinese scientists have grown “mini-antlers” in mice by inserting deer genes into them. Scientific reports.

It has been noted that deer antlers, which grow 2.75 centimeters per day, are one of the fastest regenerating tissues in the animal kingdom. So, experts performed RNA sequencing of single cells of a male sika deer. The scientists then analyzed the collected material and established certain relationships between cell types, and then transplanted them into mice.

After 45 days, they developed mini-horns thanks to stem cells, which turned into bone and cartilage tissue, which is an important part of repairing bone fractures.

The horns are rapidly elongated, revealing to scientists the genetic mechanisms that led to their development.

It was previously reported that PETA researchers have introduced a new version of the groundbreaking Research Modernization Deal, which refers to the phase-out of the use of animals in experiments.

Scientists have created a robot that can directly print tissue on the human body
