World Health Organization (WHO) announced today that it considers alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and micron variants of the coronavirus to be “previously in circulation” and cause COVID-19and now we will focus on the study of new sub-variants of the latter that have appeared since 2022.
One of the omicron sub-variants, XBB 1.5, considered one of the most contagious and currently one of the most common in pandemic cases, is now considered an “interesting variant” while five others (BQ.1, BA .2.75, CH.1.1, XBB and XBF) become “options under observation”.
If any of them merited closer observation and special preventive measures, it would become a “variant of concern” like alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and omicron, and would be assigned a new letter of the Greek alphabet, pointed out WHO this is a statement.
“Pension” options
delta optionfirst discovered in India was predominant until the end of 2021, in which it was gradually replaced by omicron (first detected in analysis in South Africa).
omicronin addition to being more easily transmitted, it develops faster new sub-variants that have multiplied since last year, which creates some confusion in monitoring the evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
The announced changes “do not mean that the circulation of omicron viruses has ceased to pose a threat to public health,” the department explained. WHOwhich emphasized that the modification “is carried out to better identify new potential threats.”
WHO In any case, remember that omicron-derived variants tend to affect the upper respiratory tract (pharynx, trachea…) rather than the lower (lungs) like the previous ones, which tends to make cases generally less severe. (EFE)
